Complete an internship at Hellings
Daan's graduation internship
After an educational and successful graduation period, we say goodbye to Daan Schriek. During his internship he immersed himself in quality management and document management within Hellings. With his research and improvement initiatives, he has laid a solid foundation for future optimisations within our organisation.
An internship at Hellings means working on issues that really matter. Depending on your studies and interests, you can work on research, process improvement, engineering or innovative solutions. Daan chose a graduation assignment in which he investigated how quality management and document management within Hellings could be developed further.
The assignment
Quality management and smart document management
During my graduation internship at Hellings I worked on improving quality management within the organisation. The goal was to create more structure, define responsibilities and make information more accessible to employees. I started by designing a Quality Management System (QMS), built around five key pillars: policy and objectives, processes, roles and ownership, monitoring and continuous improvement. As a first concrete step, I developed an improvement points list that provides insight into failure costs and possible improvement actions. I also investigated various suppliers and systems that can support quality management. This research identified SharePoint as the most suitable system solution. Because a full implementation proved not feasible at this time, we focused on strengthening the foundation. Together with a project team, I therefore worked on improving the document management of the Technical Construction Files (TCDs). We developed a new TCD structure, defined ownership per document and prepared the setup for future use with Microsoft Copilot. As a result, information is better organised and employees will soon be able to find answers in project files faster and more reliably.
A valuable experience
During his internship, Daan discovered how challenging and dynamic a graduation assignment can be. Due to changing insights and priorities, the project regularly required flexibility and the ability to move with the organisation.
In addition to the substantive challenge, Daan looks back with particular pleasure on the collaboration with colleagues and the open atmosphere within Hellings. His graduation research shows that interns at Hellings are given the space to work on current organisational issues and to actually make an impact. We thank Daan for his commitment, enthusiasm and valuable contribution to Hellings and wish him every success in his future adventures!
