Hellings makes history

Jan Vervoort Company Tournament 2026

On Sunday 28 June, Hellings took part in the anniversary edition of the Jan Vervoort Company Tournament at VV Nijnsel. Despite the tropical temperatures, our team enjoyed a sporting and successful day that will be remembered for a long time.

The day started excellently with two victories in the group stage. Two narrow defeats against strong opponents followed, but Hellings showed plenty of commitment, team spirit and perseverance. This earned a place in the knock-out stage of the losers’ pool. That is when things really got exciting. Both the quarter-final and the semi-final ended in a goalless draw, after which penalties had to bring the decision. Thanks to several excellent saves by our goalkeeper, Hellings managed to win both matches and secure a place in the final.

A young and energetic opponent awaited in the final. With great fighting spirit and excellent teamwork, Hellings held its ground. In the end, a fine attack was crowned with the only goal of the match: 1-0.

With this victory, Hellings made history. After sixteen years of participation, our team won the losers’ pool of the Jan Vervoort Company Tournament for the first time and took the cup home. We thank VV Nijnsel, all volunteers, referees, supporters and participating teams for an excellent organisation and a friendly, sporting anniversary edition. We look back with pride on a wonderful day full of football, team spirit and a result that will take a special place in the history of Hellings.
