Working at Hellings: “The best part is that you come up with an idea here, work it out yourself and then literally see it standing in the workshop.”

Joost Rosenhart has been working at Hellings as a Mechanical Engineer since 2021. He ended up here through an email from Paul Hellings and immediately felt it was a good fit. He now designs machines, sees them being built and enjoys the friendly atmosphere within our company.

How did you end up at Hellings?

During my Mechanical Engineering studies I was looking for a company to graduate with. Together with a fellow student, we selected ten companies and emailed them with our question. Hellings was one of them, but there was no room at the time. I eventually graduated at VDL Packaging. Just before I finished, I received an email from Paul Hellings asking whether I was looking for a job. Smart move, of course, because they were looking for engineers. I also visited two other companies, but at Hellings I immediately had the feeling: this is right. Everything is well organised, and the projects are very diverse. That makes the work varied and enjoyable.

What does your job involve?

As a Mechanical Engineer I design custom machines for customers together with colleagues. I often do the drawing work myself, but always within a project team. There is always someone who reviews your work and with whom you can spar. The great thing is that you don’t just design here, you actually see your design being built. Sometimes I even go along to the customer to see the end result. And more and more often I see my work in the videos made by our videographer Devon. That makes me extra proud.

What is great about working at Hellings?

What I enjoy most is that you come up with a completely new machine from scratch and a few months later it is standing in the workshop. That remains special. The atmosphere is also friendly and relaxed. We work hard, but there is always room for a joke and a drink. Everyone is approachable, including the director. And Hellings thinks along with you: I usually start around 7 o’clock, but sometimes I set the alarm a bit later. They are also flexible with holidays. For example, I was able to buy extra days to cycle from Brabant to Nice with a friend.

How would you describe Hellings?

In three words? Diversity, conviviality and technology. To me, Hellings is a true Brabant family business. The thresholds are low and the atmosphere is personal. Whether it’s something tasty in the canteen or celebrating together, like during the open day when we performed with the Hellings Transportband. Together with a number of colleagues we rehearsed for months.
